Top 5 Reasons Doing Yoga From Home Rocks

#1. Your Own Time

Save the commute and any excuse about getting into the yoga studio. No messing around with parking or being late for class. When you are doing yoga from home you can wake up 5 minutes before class, turn on your computer or phone, join class and begin. You can even do class in your bed if that calls to you. With the replay classes being available until the following day you can start your practice on your own time and fit your practice into your schedule. Being in the live zoom class is best, but if you can’t make it for any reason, you still have the opportunity to maintain your daily practice on your own time.

#2. Your Own Space

Start where you are, use what you have is one of my favourite life mantras. This mantra give you the freedom to be where you are and embrace the present. Create a space that nurtures your practice, no matter where you are. It doesn't have a to be a big space. It can be beside your bed, in your living room or kitchen, closet, patio, yard, bathroom, hotel room, park anywhere that you can access the internet you can access your practice. Wherever there is space for your mat, there is space for your yoga practice. You have the option to light candles, use aromatherapy, incense, pillows, blankets, it can be dark or light, you can have your camera on or off. This is YOUR practice in your space and YOU decide. Take the time to make it comfortable for you. There is freedom in creating this type of mobile practice.

#3. You Can Wear Anything You Feel Comfortable In

No need for expensive yoga clothes, unless that is your preference. You can wear an old t-shirt, oversized pants, a bikini or the latest Lululemon trends, it does not matter. No one is going to notice, judge or care. What matters is that you practice, that you show up and that you feel comfortable in your own skin.

#4. No Anxiety Of Interacting With Others

If you are the kind of person who experiences any kind of social anxiety, I know from personal experience, the struggle is real, especially after the isolation of Covid. Yes we may be being told it is safe but the virus is still out there and it may take time for us to feel fully comfortable being around others in public spaces. Please know you are not alone and it is COMPLETELY OK to feel this way. If you are someone who had social anxiety before the pandemic, I know that it is even more heightened now. It is ok if you still feel the need to protect yourself, it is ok if you feel anxious around others for ANY reason. For me, yoga has actually helped me to manage that social anxiety and anxiety over all. Practicing different breathing methods helps to calm the nervous system in any moment of any day. And using the breathing techniques off my mat has helped manage my social anxiety. Please let this practice support you, even if it is just for a short time, let it bring strength into your body, mind and soul.

#5. You Have A Community You Can Engage With And Feel Part Of

Maybe you have felt very alone, yet you feel the desire to be social, to see and interact with others who are like minded. Humans are not meant to be alone. It is interesting when we feel torn between wanting to be social and still wanting to stay home. This community is the best of both worlds. Embrace being apart of something bigger then you. Embrace being connected to others. Embrace that you are an important piece of the whole, that you are welcome and you are cared about. Know that your teacher and fellow students want you there. Allow yourself to be connected.
